Gallery Pieces ► home |

These pieces have been designed to be touched. My first desire when entering a craft gallery is to touch the exhibits, which is normally not allowed. I have worked for Clear Vision, a charitable organisation that creates sensory books for those with little or no vision, and understand the importance of touch. I feel that textile is a robust form, and the way I construct my work emphasises this. I encourage people to pick up and examine closely the work that I do. This can cause many reactions: firstly surprise that they have been invited to touch, second caution that they might set off alarms, and then finally delight in being able to explore the work, and see and feel the stitching. Most importantly I wish to see people smile when they have such access to my work. This is why I have often worked with such materials as rubber gloves and balloons. |
